Bio

Born London 1955, Lesley Redgate emigrated to South Australia in 1967. Her career as artist and educator began in 1976 after completing studies at the SA School of Art and Uni SA. Winner of the Thomas Laird Memorial Traveling Art Study Award led her to overseas travel in 1994 and 1997. She is represented in the Victorian National Gallery as recipient of the Michelle Endowment Award.

Drawing inspiration from the changing Fleurieu landscape, Lesley Redgate's paintings reflect a vibrancy and visual harmony often found in the harsh Australian environment. Inspired by the Australian Modernists and French post-impressionists, Lesley has developed a style which focuses on the subtleties of colour to describe form. Preoccupied with structure and geometry, her work captures the unusual from ordinary scenes recording the history of the area where she lives and has a deep connection to. Lesley paints and conducts private tuition from her studio in Willunga SA.

Collections:
National Gallery of Victoria, Hardy's Winery London, Mt Lofty House, City of Onkaparinga. Private and public collections in Australia, England, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, South Africa.
