Bio

Katherine (Kate) is a final year student in the Bachelor of Contemporary Art degree at the University of South Australia. She is focusing her studies on kiln formed glass, hot glass, and ceramics. Her degree builds on skills she gained through masterclasses she has taken with international glass artists, and short courses at the Adelaide Central School of Art. She was a highly commended finalist in the 2022 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize, a Highly Commended in the Sculpture Award at the 2022 Victor Harbor Art Show and a finalist in the Uni SA 2023 Images of Research and Teaching Competition. She received the 2022 “Judy and Jack Condous Award “ for the Bachelor of Contemporary Art student completing second year with the highest grade point average. She is a member and treasurer of the 2023 Contemporary Art Graduate Exhibition organising committee. 

Kate is a strong advocate of support for the arts in regional areas. She is a member of the Victor Harbor Regional Gallery co-operative. She manages the Gallery’s promotions, website, social media and assists with the Friends of the Gallery group.

Her work seeks to celebrate the unique properties of glass as a medium, using its flexible form and potential to refract and reflect light. She considers her passion for visual art as a superpower as visiting exhibitions and viewing art always fills her with joy.
