Bio

Belinda is an emerging artist who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Contemporary Art. During her time at university, she was actively involved in the Contemporary Art Club as Secretary, where she organised and ran the 2023 Graduate Exhibition and opening night. Her excellence in photography was recognised through the Atkins Prize Award for Excellence in Photography.

In 2022, Belinda was awarded the prestigious Royal South Australian Society of Arts University of South Australia Grant and a six-month residency. This culminated in a two-week exhibition that was held earlier this year.

Belinda's art explores beauty in everyday life and focuses on highlighting the often-overlooked details that make up our daily experiences. She experiments with expanded photography techniques and uses both analogue and digital methods to capture these details.

Belinda draws inspiration from her suburban neighbourhood by exploring the interplay between place, memory, and personal identity. Her upcoming SALA exhibition delves deeper into this theme, where she uses photography to present familiar places and objects in a new light. Her aim is to encourage viewers to consider the impact of perspective and different lenses on our understanding of the world, while also promoting a more inclusive and empathetic perspective.

Looking towards the future, Belinda's ambition as an emerging artist is to create work and spaces where people can enjoy the beauty and temporal nature in everyday life, making visible the things that have become invisible. She envisions a future where all community members have access to regularly experience the inspiration, satisfaction, and wellbeing that stem from immersing oneself in art. Belinda firmly believes that supporting the engagement of curiosity and creativity is vital for the future of art, our culture, and our community, as creativity connects us and enhances social cohesion.
